Polymer Clay Experience

Polymer Clay Experience
4/20/2018, 12:45 PM 2:45 PM
South Baker Intermediate School, 1285 3rd St, Baker City, OR 97814, USA

Students will get a chance to sculpt their very own character. Conditioning the clay (it’s about moving molecules, not just warm, soft clay); forming a foil armature so the actual clay is a thin layer; pre-baking eyes, teeth and horns; rolling, pinching and cutting, and using a variety of tools to shape the clay; and basic techniques like working side to side, to keep things fairly symmetrical. Along with a brush up of the basic skills (above), students in this class learn to blend interesting marbled colors and add veneers of highlight colors to parts of their project. We'll play with simple textures and also talk about how to design a character that appears more animated. Students will also learn about double baking and creating moveable parts, like the swinging fins on the fish sample.
