District Report Card

FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Parents and Community Members,

The annual Oregon Department of Education report card provides a year to year comparative picture of Baker 5J schools. This year’s

report card provides data our students’ performance for the first and second year of Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC), which is aligned with Oregon State Standards. Results from this year’s testing will not be used to rank our district or individual schools however we are analyzing SBAC data to determine areas of concern or strengths. Baker students showed academic growth this past year in many areas. Participation rates remained at or above 94%, for the most part. High School students exceeded state average in English Language Arts. Baker students scored above state average in Science at all grade levels. Areas of concern include academic growth students with disabilities and English Language Learners. Mathematics scores for students in Gr. 6-11 and graduation/completion rates are below state average. While Baker High School and Baker Early College both had completion rates at or above 85%, Baker Web Academy and EAGLE CAP rates were well below state averages.

This year Baker 5J will implement new math curriculum, K-12, including a diagnostic screener that will help teachers identify needs

and individualize instruction. The District will provide training and support throughout the year for teachers working with these new

programs and materials.

Baker School District, with the help of community partners, launched rigorous summer programs to support students identified as being at risk of not achieving success in school. These programs served nearly 150 students, Gr. 1-8. We hope to build upon the success of

these programs by expanding services to reach even more students in 2016-17.

We invite and encourage your assistance with the active engagement of your student(s) in all aspects of the school experience, especially to improve attendance. Regular attendance is the first critical step towards success at school. We look forward to partnering with you as we step into these new areas of challenge.

Thank you,

Superintendent
